Intro

I heard you like Madness and Mayhem, well you're at the right place. With this build the Berserker will permanently have 15% Increased Movement and Attack Speed and 65% Damage Reduction as long as Mayhem is active (almost 100%). You will permanently have access to your Burst Mode ability, Dark Rush. What you get is great Mobility, High Burst oriented Game-play, Permanent Burst Mode and a good Counter paired with Great Stagger and Destruction whilst swinging your massive sword dealing great damage. Then here we are, the Berserker is however Class-engraving dependent, has slower Casting skills, less room for error, and a bit of Health anxiety when you just start getting used to your 25% health bar. With his fun play style the Berserker is a good asset to most team compositions and uses the cheapest Health Potions in the game as he caps out at 25% health, which opens him up for some nice setups like the Hell Blade and Sword Storm abilities, which with Red Dust hit VERY hard.

Skill Points Progression

  • At 268 Skill Points level up Tempest Slash to 7 and add Tempest Slash, Weak Point Detection.
  • At 284 Skill Points level up Chain Sword to 7 and add Chain Sword, Swift Attack Prep.
  • At 296 Skill Points downgrade Chain Sword back to 4, and level up Tempest Slash to 10 and add Tempest Slash, Driving Hit.
  • At 312 Skill Points re-upgrade Chain Sword to 7 and add Chain Sword, Swift Attack Prep.
  • At 340 Skill Points level up Chain Sword to 10 and add Chain Sword, Quick Prep.

Skill Breakdown

  • Shoulder Charge is used as a movement ability, paired with a Quick Recharge, 3 a useful filler to reset some cooldowns if the Boss is impaired.
  • Red Dust the bread-and-butter ability that debuffs the enemy for 6 seconds for you to do 30% more damage, and to give you 20% more crit rate during those 6 seconds. Used to start combos and before Awakening Abilities.
  • Finish Strike is one of the Big Hitters, with the Finish Strike, Tenacity tripod it becomes a Push Immunity high damaging and stagger/destruction ability.
  • Sword Storm is a Mayhem Berserker only ability with the double damage on the Sword Storm, Flame Storm permanently triggered.
  • Tempest Slash is a decent filler and Stagger ability.
  • Chain Sword
  • Hell Blade is another Big Hitter, paired with the Mayhem using the Hell Blade, Deadly Blow makes it do great damage. You can gap-close hit the Boss with this ability if needed.
  • Strike Wave is a 2 stage charging ability that hits hard per hit, however this depends on the targets hit box, it can hit up to 4 times though it might be hard to land all 4 hits on smaller targets. Use this on stationary targets for a easier time landing it properly.
  • Berserk Fury is used because we don't have a Fury Meter, as such we can choose the higher damage Awakening Berserk Fury instead. It does have charge time but is well worth it.
  • Dark Rush is our Burst skill which we have permanent access to as soon as we activate Mayhem. This ability has massive Stagger a bit of Weak Point Lv.1 and Push Immunity. Make sure to hit this on the back for maximum damage potential.

Alternatives

  • Sword Storm can be equipped with Sword Storm, Vital Point Strike if you have high enough swiftness or cannot fit it in your rotation properly.
  • Chain Sword for this ability you can opt to replace Chain Sword, Vital Point Hit with Chain Sword, Nimble Movement for a faster Counter which removes the wind-up slightly.

Gameplay

  • When engaging in combat position yourself behind the Boss as much as possible, use your Shoulder Charge to gap close or to dodge/reposition yourself.
  • After dodging mechanics you can use Hell Blade as a gap closer or to start Stagger mechanics with.
  • When a bosses' Stagger mechanic is coming, make sure to save high Stagger skills like Finish Strike and/or Tempest Slash. (See Skill Rotations).
  • Chain Sword is your Counter ability, though used in your rotation if you are in front of the boss or the boss turns to you, you can save it until you are either behind the boss again or to Counter it.
  • During gameplay try to be aware of how much health you have, your health bar is 25% with 65% damage reduction so you take a little more damage then the other Berserker build.
  • You only have to use a basic HP Potion, as you can not exceed 25% max health this will always put you to full health even through Cursed Doll as this makes the HP Potion heal you for 22.5% out of your max 25% health.
  • Whenever you start a boss fight make sure to be in a good position to unload your combo's always starting with Red Dust for the de-buff and self-buff.
  • Tempest Slash can be used as a filler for burst windows.

Below are some examples for ability rotations. If you have free abilities to use but no full rotations use Chain Sword for a quick self-buff before using abilities.

Skill Rotations

DPS Rotations

  1. Chain Sword (If level 7 or higher)
  2. Red Dust
  3. Finish Strike

  3. Finish Strike

Alternative Burst

You can use a full cooldown burst window if you need to beat a dps check or have a burst window with a staggered/stunned boss due to mechanics. This does require the level 7 Chain Sword tripod Chain Sword, Swift Attack Prep to be feasible.

  1. Chain Sword
  2. Strike Wave
  3. Red Dust
  4. Finish Strike
  5. Sword Storm
  6. Hell Blade
  7. Tempest Slash

Stagger Check/Short DPS

  1. Chain Sword (Level 7+) otherwise use Red Dust
  2. Finish Strike
  3. Tempest Slash
  4. Sword Storm

Note that Red Dust has no Paralysis Immunity and is easily interrupted it is advised to hit from a distance or after a Boss's attack.

Stats

Mayhem Berserkers focus on Crit and Swiftness. There are several ways to spread your stats, here are some examples:

  • Balanced Split: Crit and Swiftness 50/50. A one size fits all kind of deal.
  • Swiftness Build: For faster cooldowns go for a 70/30 Swiftness and Crit build until you hit 1400 Swiftness. After 1400 you max out movement/attack speed (140%) giving you a great boost from using the Raid Captain engraving, putting the rest of your 1000+ points in Crit will put you at a respectable Crit Rate late-game. With this set up your cooldowns will also be lowered tremendously.
  • Critical Build: Go for a 60/40 Crit and Swiftness build aiming for 800-900 Swiftness and everything else into Crit for late-game. This helps compensate for the +20% Crit Rate from Burst Mode without Mayhem. The Swiftness will still pair well with with Raid Captain. In very late game Tier 3, your Crit will only get higher.

Recommended overall will be the Swiftness Build due to it balancing out the Crit at a later stage but making game-play more fluent as the Berserker might feel slightly sluggish without decent Swiftness.

Engravings

As Mayhem is our main engraving giving us the most boost this is the always must have engraving. Below are the recommended Engravings for this build.

Starter Engravings

  • Mayhem our core engraving which at all levels provides a flat bonus of 15% Attack Speed, 15% Movement Speed and 65% Damage Reduction. The only stat to increase from higher Engraving levels is the damage. It is also the highest damage increase outside of Grudge that you will have access to.
  • Master's Tenacity basically a free damage boost for Mayhem Berserkers due to the low health pool being a permanent state.

Endgame/Special Engravings

  • The third best choice for this build is Cursed Doll*. The healing penalty from the engraving only lowers the health healed from 25% down to 22.5% using the 30% HP Potion as stated before. There is little to no drawback for Mayhem Berserkers because you are capped at 25% max health.
  • For the Crit stat distribution Keen Blunt Weapon* becomes a viable choice. It should only be used as your 5th or 6th engraving with a Crit Rate of at least 50% or higher.
  • For the Swiftness stat distribution Raid Captain is your 4th best engraving. Raid Captain will give you a 18% damage boost at 140% movement speed (max).
  • Master of Ambush can be used instead of Grudge without the drawback, as the Berserkers's Skill set is majorly consisting of Back Attack abilities.

Advanced Engraving

Note: The Advanced Engravings are generally the Best in Slot setup for Tier 3 content. The drawbacks that these engravings have can be hard to overcome for new players. Only use the following engravings if you are experienced with your class and the encounter.

  • Grudge* a very common DPS engraving that adds the biggest damage boost available. Due to the nature of Mayhem the drawbacks are slightly offset however still hard to deal with early on. Never use Grudge below level 3 as an engraving.
  • Increases Mass* increases attack power with a penalty of 10% reduced Attack Speed. If your Swiftness is high enough the penalty can be offset by the Chain Sword, Swift Attack Prep tripod on Chain Sword for the buff duration.

(*) These Engravings should only be used at Engravings Level 3. With the exception of Cursed Doll for this build.

Optimal Engraving Setups

In order of importance.

Standard

  1. Mayhem Level 3
  2. Master's Tenacity Level 3
  3. Cursed Doll Level 3
  4. Raid Captain Level 3
  5. Keen Blunt Weapon Level 3 or Grudge Level 3

Alternative

  1. Mayhem Level 1
  2. Master's Tenacity Level 3
  3. Increases Mass Level 3
  4. Raid Captain Level 3
  5. Keen Blunt Weapon Level 3 or Cursed Doll Level 3
  6. Grudge Level 3

Gems

Gems grant bonus damage and cooldown reduction to specific skills. You can only equip 11 of these Gems at a time so it is recommended that you prioritize the Gems for your most important skills.

Attack Gems:

  • Tempest Slash
  • Finish Strike
  • Hell Blade
  • Strike Wave
  • Sword Storm

Cooldown Gems:

  • Tempest Slash
  • Finish Strike
  • Hell Blade
  • Strike Wave
  • Sword Storm
  • Red Dust

Runes

Runes enhance Skills with extra bonuses. All rune obtained runes are account bound and have limited availability, so placement of Runes on the correct Skills is very important. Below are the recommended pairings.

  • Finish Strike with Galewind, 3 or Overwhelm, 4
  • Tempest Slash with Focus, 4 or Overwhelm, 4
  • Red Dust with Bleed, 4
  • Chain Sword with Galewind, 2, Purify, 3 or Quick Recharge, 3
  • Strike Wave with Galewind, 3
  • Hell Blade with Galewind, 3 or Overwhelm, 4
  • Sword Storm with Galewind, 2 or Overwhelm, 3
  • Shoulder Charge with Quick Recharge, 3 or Protection, 3

For the Mayhem Wealth, 4 is completely useless as you have instant access to Burst Mode.

Purify, 3 can be slotted if the fight has a use for removing a de-buff potentially.

Overwhelm, 4 helps increase your Stagger damage done by the ability its slotted for, it's mostly used as an alternative if other runes are not available or in case of a boss fights core mechanic.

Gear Skill Tree and Tripods

Once you enter Tier 3 there will be gear that starts dropping to enhance your abilities through the tripods. Tripods levels go up to a maximum of 5 (+4 on gear) and each level can enhance the effect of the tripod for example, damage, cooldown, buff intensity and mana cost.

Recommended tripods to focus on for the Mayhem Berserker are the following:

  • Finish Strike Finish Strike, Enhanced Strike Finish Strike, Weak Point Detection Finish Strike, Lights Out
  • Tempest Slash Tempest Slash, Quick Prep Tempest Slash, Weak Point Detection Tempest Slash, Storm Slash or Tempest Slash, Driving Hit*
  • Hell Blade Hell Blade, Deadly Blow Hell Blade, Earth Flip
  • Chain Sword Chain Sword, Vital Point Hit
  • Strike Wave Strike Wave, Wave Strike Wave, Limit Break Strike Wave, Earth Flip
  • Sword Storm Sword Storm, Quick Prep Sword Storm, Weak Point Detection Sword Storm, Flame Storm
  • Red Dust Red Dust, Quick Prep Red Dust, Vital Point Hit Red Dust, Red Wave

*(Shorter animation and better stagger)

Card Sets

For the Mayhem Berserker the "We'll Meet Again" card set is extremely powerful and recommended to use.

Below is some more general info about other sets it can be combined with and that will be more powerful replacements eventually.

Cards are an endgame system to maximize your characters potential. Below are some of the recommended sets/setups for this class. You have a total of 6 card slots available and can create several combinations until you start working on Awakening piece sets and reach their minimum requirements.

  • Beginner Card Sets
  • Field Boss II 4 Set. This will give you +8.00% Max Health.
  • Romanticist 2 Set. Lowers your Movement Skill Cooldown by -10%.
  • Forest of Giants 3 Set. This increases the Effectiveness of your recovery items by +15%. (Best Value non-awakening card set).
  • We'll Meet Again 3 Set. This will give you -12% Damage taken while below 50% max Health. And at 9-Awakening an additional -18% Damage taken while below 50%.
  • Nature's Elementals 2 Set. This will give you -8% Damage taken while below 50% max Health.

These sets are obtainable early on in the game and give you a slightly better time playing as you learn and get better and until something better becomes available as the ones mentioned below.

  • Budget Card Set
  • Lostwind Cliff 6 set (12-piece Awakening) This will give you Crit rate +7.00%.

The Lostwind Cliff card set gives you a nice Crit bonus at a more acceptable rate of awakening, leveling this up beyond 12-piece Awakening doesn't have enough investment value. It might take you a while to get it however the Seria and Solas cards are to a degree farm-able instead of being purely luck dependent. (Note: Requires full 6 piece set to be equipped).

  • Optimal Damage Card Set -Light of Salvation 6 Set(12-piece Awakening) Converts your damage type to Holy. -Light of Salvation 6 Set(18-piece Awakening) Holy Damage +7.00% -Light of Salvation 6 Set(30-piece Awakening) Holy Damage +8.00%

This card set will increase your raw damage output by a total of 15.00%, a added bonus to that is the +30.00% Dark Damage Reduction it gives. The Light of Salvation card set is the best damaging card set for all DPS characters in the game but will take very long to complete to a 30-piece Awakening stage. This is a super-long-term goal. (Note: Requires full 6 piece set to be equipped).

Summary

  • Mayhem Berserkers do not have to build the Fury Meter. They immediately enter Burst mode and gain permanent 15% increased Attack Speed, 15% Movement Speed, 65% Damage Reduction and +4%/+9%/+18% Attack depending on Engraving level.
  • Lead fights with Red Dust into your other heavy hitting skills. If done right, you can make use of the 30% damage buff in the 6 seconds that the buff is up.
  • Most of the Berserker's abilities have high Stagger and contribute significantly to boss mechanics.
  • Master's Tenacity is the perfect engraving for Mayhem Berserkers.
  • Cursed Doll has little to no drawbacks healing the Mayhem Berserker for 22.5% out of max 25% health with the 30% HP Potions.
